Decline in people Commencing & Completing Trades Training – Latest Quarterly Report from NCVERShare On
The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) have released the latest apprentice and trainee figures for the latest quarter to 30 June 2016. This work has been produced by NCVER on behalf of the Australian Government and state and territory governments, with funding provided through the Department of Education and Training.

In-training as at 30 June 2016
There were 282 900 apprentices and trainees in-training as at 30 June 2016, a decrease of 7.8% from 30 June 2015.
Quarterly training activity
In the June quarter 2016, compared with the June quarter 2015:
commencements decreased by 2.1%, to 39 900 (Trades commencements decreased by 17.3%)
completions decreased by 23.4%, to 22 100 (Trades completions decreased by 19.2%)
cancellations and withdrawals increased by 4.1%, to 24 900.
Training activity: 12-month ending series
In the 12 months ending 30 June 2016, compared with the 12 months ending 30 June 2015:
commencements decreased by 8.4%, to 168 800 (Trades commencements decreased by 10.5%)
completions decreased by 16.3%, to 107 900
cancellations and withdrawals decreased by 7.6%, to 96 500.
When you look at the rate of commencement and completion for Trades vs Non-Trades those are fairly hefty, and significant declines.
